Althea Long is a seasoned, multi-award winning broadcaster and media professional, with over 40 years of experience as a radio and TV host, and producer.
Currently Althea hosts and produces “The Althea Long Show“, a syndicated radio series which airs in Arizona on KRDP (M-F 1pm-2pm and Sun 8pm-10pm) in the Phoenix area.
She has delivered all types of radio formats and music genres heard throughout Arizona. To add to her credits, this New Jersey transplant has been crowned as “The First Lady of Disco Radio,” and “The First Lady of Jazz Radio.”
During her radio career, this “Phoenix Legend,” had the privilege to interview such jazz legends as Les McCann, Eddie Harris, Betty Carter, Cleo Laine, Gary Burton, Branford Marsalis, Jon Hendricks, Mose Allison, Harold Vick, Jack McDuff and Charlie Byrd, just to mention a few.
As a concert promoter, Althea was responsible for bringing to the Phoenix Metro Area, headliners like, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Freddie Hubbard, Tito Puente, Spyro Gyra, and Houston Person.
“My interest in jazz, and jazz radio was sparked during my college years. During late night study sessions, I would catch an East Coast jazz radio show – “The Best of All Possible Worlds,” hosted by Harry Abraham. I got turned on to this music and became a big fan…FOREVER”! , states Althea.
Known for her on-air delivery as a “Smooth Talker,” Althea is in her comfort zone these days creating a radio show she calls “A Music Mindwalk” …an eclectic mix of some of her favorite tunes curated for a sophisticated listener palette.
