ABOUT DESERT SOUL MEDIA, INC.
Founded in 2015, Desert Soul Media, Inc. (DSM) is a non-profit media arts organization which exists to foster arts and culture discovery, civic engagement, and community cohesion among Arizona’s growing African American and other minority populations. We accomplish this through a mix of broadcast radio, online and in-person programming designed to engage African Americans and other marginalized groups whose voices are usually absent from or misrepresented within public discourse.
MISSION STATEMENT
Desert Soul Media, Inc. is an educational non-profit bridging the digital divide between access to and training on digital media equipment and software; and the intergenerational, underrepresented populations in the digital media arts industry. Our highest priorities are Black and African American youth, seniors, and families. We are telling our stories, our way.
VISION STATEMENT
Desert Soul Media, Inc., is a trauma informed organization with care and prevention in our programming. We understand the needs of our target audience and their relationship with historical trauma. In our programming we create space for participants to express themselves in an environment of positive caring peers and adults, maintain a system for overcoming triggers by acknowledging success in resilience strategies, and connecting individuals to resources for maintenance.
OUR PROGRAMS
DSM fulfills its mission through four educational programs – (1) Desert Soul Creative Studios, a public access media center located in Phoenix, (2) KRDP Community Radio, consisting of two public radio stations in the Phoenix metro (KRDP 90.7 FM and KRDP Indie), and its podcast/syndication division (KRDP+), (3) Paint The Town with Sound, a series of live multimedia arts events hosted throughout Arizona, and (4) Soul Star Live®, Arizona’s only daily news and public affairs series addressing topics of concern to the state’s growing African American, as well as African and Afro Carribbean immigrant communities.
